Apprehension and fear of dentistry goes back many years to a time when anesthesia was unknown and even routine dental procedures were a painful, unpleasant experience. Today, modern dental advances have provided excellent local anesthetics that can relieve the pain involved with dentistry. Unfortunately, local anesthetic techniques will not eliminate the feelings of nervousness and apprehension that people have about submitting to dental treatment; however IV sedation and general anesthesia can safely eliminate these unpleasant sensations and transform the dental experience into a pleasant one. It will enable you to undergo your dental treatment in a very calm and relaxed manner. In addition, great amount of dental work can be accomplished in a single visit.

DAY OF SURGERY
The anesthesia process starts with your physical evaluation by Dr. Sadeghi to ensure your readiness for treatment. In the operating room, Dr. Sadeghi will start monitors and an IV line. You will be given sedative drugs through the IV line and shortly thereafter you will lose awareness of being in a dental office. From this moment on, Dr. Sadeghi will be with you every second during the treatment. Your vital functions (breathing, blood pressure, heart rate, EKG, blood oxygen saturation level) will be monitored with state of the art equipment and Dr. Sadeghi ensures your comfort and safety throughout the treatment.
At the termination of the treatment, you will be taken to a recovery area where you will be able to be with your friend or family members. At this time, the post-op instructions will be reviewed with your caretaker. Recovery will take about 30-60 minutes. Dr. Sadeghi will continuously check your condition, and when appropriate, he will give the permission for discharge.

POST-OP INSTRUCTIONS
- Since you may be dehydrated after your operation, have adequate amounts of fluids and nutritional intake. Do not eat a big meal immediately after anesthesia. Your dentist will give you specific instructions for home care following the procedure, and guidelines for what to eat and any medications to take. Since dehydration is one of the contributing factors to nausea and vomiting, try to consume adequate amounts of clear liquid.
- Do not drive an automobile or operate machinery of any kind for at least 24 hours after anesthesia or while taking narcotic pain medication.
- Do not consume alcoholic beverages 24 hours after your treatment.
